A Creative Practice Rooted in the Living Landscape
My work as an artist began with a simple belief: meaningful art grows from the very world it seeks to honour. From childhood afternoons spent watching birds in hedgerows and woodlands to years experimenting with organic and built forms and textures, my creative path has always been shaped by the rhythms of the outdoors and our industrial past. Today, every work I create reflects a lifelong connection to our natural world and the industrial environment.
This deep respect for our environments influences not only the aesthetics of my work but also the way it is made. Sustainability isn’t a trend I adopted; it is the heart of my practice and the foundation of my values as an artist.
Working With Natural, Sustainable and Reclaimed Materials
A garden becomes truly alive when wild birds visit, so I specialise in crafting natural garden sculptures with a purpose, eco-friendly bird feeders, wildlife drinkers, and tactile outdoor pieces created from responsibly sourced, biodegradable materials that support UK ecosystems.
My preferred materials include:
- Natural hardwoods
- Willow and plant fibres
- Reclaimed metal and used industrial pieces
- Natural oils, waxes, and finishes are safe for birds and pollinators
These materials allow each piece to support the character of the landscape while maintaining a minimal environmental footprint. Every piece is designed to sit harmoniously within wildlife-friendly gardens, cottage gardens, woodland edges, and contemporary outdoor spaces, as well as in the home and office.
Art That Supports Birds, Bees and UK Wildlife
My sculptures are intentionally created to be both beautiful and functional. Through considered shaping, safe natural finishes, and an understanding of wildlife behaviour, each piece becomes a small invitation to nature, a resting place for a robin, a feeding point for finches, or a sheltered spot for pollinators. My artwork also reuses old and broken items that are no longer working, saving them from landfill and harming our environment.
Whether hanging, standing, or nestled among planting, each outdoor work enhances the garden while quietly supporting biodiversity. Over time, my pieces weather gently, becoming part of the habitat itself.
Low-Impact Craftsmanship
Each artwork is handcrafted in small batches or individually as one-of-a-kind pieces using low-energy processes and minimal waste practices. Natural and used materials lend a uniqueness in each piece not available to new objects fresh from the factory.
- Offcuts are reused or composted
- Packaging is recyclable or biodegradable
- Tools and techniques are chosen for their light environmental impact
- Studio processes are regularly reviewed to improve sustainability
This mindful approach allows every piece to be made with intention, patience, and the care it deserves.
Celebrating Local Ecosystems Through Art
I aim to help people create spaces that feel vibrant, alive, and welcoming outdoor and indoor spaces where art and nature coexist. By blending sculpture with habitat design, I hope to inspire a deeper appreciation for the wildlife that shares our spaces and the old functional and treasured objects that once made our lives easier and celebrate their lives.
When one of my pieces enters a space, it brings more than form and beauty; it brings opportunity, a place for a bird to drink, a perch for a visiting thrush, a moment of connection between humans and the natural world. These small interactions enrich both wildlife and our own well-being, offering peace, joy, and a sense of belonging.
A Commitment That Continues to Grow
Sustainability is an ongoing journey. As I learn, adapt, and explore new natural materials, I remain committed to honouring the wildlife and outdoor environments that inspire my work. My promise is simple: to create garden art that enriches the spaces we live in and the wildlife we share them with.
